March News

Hi y’all,

I hope all is going well for you today. God is blessing our work in so many ways. I love what God has been doing through Twitter. I was contacted recently by a d.j./producer from Sweden who wanted to know more about our work. I sent him an explanatory email and he replied that he loves what we’re doing. He said a lot more, but that was one of the highlights. I’m going to correspond with him now and then and hope to one day talk about him starting a Zach’s House like group over there. While our focus is local, it’s good to get the God talk going worldwide. Another Twitter episode happened earlier today when I was in contact with another twitterer who lives down the street in Las Colinas. She’d had a terrible morning. I asked if I could pray for her and she welcomed my prayers. People do appreciate our prayers, even if they aren’t church goers. Of course, this wasn’t the first time I’d spoken to her through Twitter. I’m hoping we can start a new group in Las Colinas, similar to our prayer and pizza night in Euless. We’ve been praying for a person of peace. Please pray that Lauren is that person.

Our community football game this month almost had three guys from Twitter attend. They were thankful for the invite but just weren’t able to attend, maybe next time. I love meeting people on Twitter and in person. God has given us so many opportunities to help people and love them. In return, people want to know what Zach’s House is and why we do what we do. These are great openings to talk about Jesus. Wayne and his family came out for the game. Mary Ann got to spend time with his wife Suzanna. Good times were had by all. I threw a couple touchdowns and gave up a game ending interception that the other team ran back. Arrrgh!

Early in March, Mary Ann received a phone call from our friend Cindy. She asked about Mormons. She had invited two Mormons into her apartment. They stayed over an hour! She and Ruben had questions for us about Mormons. She invited us over and we had homemade Mexican food. I gave Ruben some house music from Chicago that I had burned for him on a CD. We talked about the Bible during supper and studied afterward for five hours. We ended up leaving their apartment at 1:00 a.m. The rest of the month with Ruben and Cindy was amazing. Remember? We aimed at having an amazing March. We did. The following three weeks included Cindy wanting to get baptized but she wants to wait for her husband to go with to watch. He wasn’t real supportive at first. We’ll see how things progress. We’ve continued to pray for them nightly. We found out the other day that they are now praying together. My wife is such an encourager to Cindy. Likewise, hearing Cindy’s enthusiasm for God encourages my bride. We love to see what God is doing in the lives of Ruben and Cindy.

Last month, I promised a photo of Cindy but instead here is a mini-Cindy and a mini-Ruben

Other highlights this month included helping one of our future small group leaders and his wife look for a house in Irving. It’ll be great to have Chris and Vickie close by. An answered prayer came quick after one of our Pizza and Prayer nights. Brandon decided to take me up to Tulsa for a great evangelism workshop. We met some good people and will stay in contact with them. I received some great encouragement while in Tulsa from Ben, an ACU grad student who has worked in Sendai, Japan. I had met him at ACU in September where he helped me find the book THE SHAPING OF THINGS TO COME by Alan Hirsch and Michael Frost. (I strongly recommend you read that book.) I had forgotten that was him until just moments ago. Also, the canned good collection is going well at the Hearthstone nursing home where we take pastries. By the way, two pizza and prayer nights ago was the best we’ve ever had. It was an awesome time of fun, food and fervent prayer.

There’s more to tell you, but your time and mine is probably shorter than we wish it was. Oh yeah, I must mention our son Ezekiel is doing great at Bible Bowl for Leadership Training for Christ (LTC) and we are a bit too prideful that as a third grader he’s doing as good, if not better than the fifth graders.

And one last thing, everyone that’s been checking out our work lately through our new website (http://cc.zachshouse.org) has said they really love what we’re doing. Some ministers and elders I’ve contacted have said they don’t entirely understand our work, but sometimes I get a “But I think I’m starting to get it.” That’s always good. I’m also happy that all the unchurched people we’ve heard from understand us and some want to be part of our work with Zach’s House. That’s always great to hear when as one person told us, “The people on the street are getting it and that’s important.”

Thank you to all our prayer and financial partners. If you’ve already sent us your March support, thank you very much. If you have yet to do so, consider this a very gentle and loving reminder. If you need to deduct your donation for tax purposes, contact us beforehand at 972-255-3789 or email us at zachshouse at gmail dot com. We’ve got some help but are still striving for complete funding. Thanks God for providing.

God bless y’all and send us any of your prayer needs. We love to pray for you.

Yours in Christ,

Brian Humek

P.S. Over the past three months of sending out our mid-month prayers and this newsletter I’ve had about five replies (y’all know who you are). In the past, I’ve had my emails go to spam folders and want to make sure that’s not happening again. Sometimes that happens because of links I send in the emails. If you have time, I’d be happy to hear if this is getting through to your inbox. If you’ve already replied in the past, thanks.
